Tiki Barber Just Won’t Shut Up About the Giants

With the New York Giants suffering another late season collapse, ex-Big Blue running back Tiki Barber has once again taken to the airwaves to trash his former employers. Well, actually, he’s taken to the NY Post because no one in broadcasting wants anything to do with the pretty boy blowhard. The target of Barber’s ire this time around is head coach Tom Coughlin, who is no stranger to being blasted, especially by Barber.
Barber was particularly bothered by Coughlin’s comments following their loss to the Eagles two weeks ago regarding their stalled ground game, which netted a paltry 29 yards in a 17-10 defeat.
“Now, he may have been right, but for someone who is prone to saying, ‘we have to keep our (expletive) in-house,’ it sounded a little outside the corps talking point. … In the midst of a three-game losing streak, after consecutive ugly losses, and potentially on the verge of making it four with the undefeated Green Bay Packers next on the docket, how do we ‘fairly’ evaluate Tom Coughlin?”
Keeping things in-house is understandable, but having listened to several Tom Coughlin press conferences over the years, he’s never one to pull punches, even if it means pointing the finger of blame at positions or players that clearly underperform. Barber continued.
“Maybe I’m not qualified to answer that because I’m not in that locker room anymore; however, watching from afar, I get the feeling that things aren’t necessarily ‘all good’ over at MetLife Stadium. Now don’t read that as me saying that coach Coughlin is not a ‘good’ coach, which I’ve always said that he is; however, I’ve just felt that his messages sometimes fit ‘his’ agenda, not ‘our’ agenda.”
Barber isn’t qualified, but that didn’t stop him from tossing in his two cents, again. For his part, Barber isn’t entirely wrong. Should the Giants miss the playoffs for a third consecutive season, Coughlin will undoubtedly be on the hot seat.
That being said, attacking Coughlin because he had the audacity to blame a pathetic running game for being pathetic is ridiculous. If Barber, or Brandon Jacobs or any other Giants player can’t handle being criticized by their head coach, maybe they should climb back into their baby cribs and suck their thumbs. Last time I checked, football is played by grown ups, not children.
