The Raiders Curse Has Already Struck Jason Campbell

I’ve always felt a little sorry for quarterback Jason Campbell. His days in Washington were mired by countless system changes, inept coaching, poor management and a lack of  receiving talent. Being shipped to another team was supposed to represent a fresh start for Campbell. Too bad that team was the Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders are plagued by the exact same problems as the Redskins. Al Davis is too old and out of touch to run a professional franchise. Tom Cable is better at punching assistants in the face than leading a team. Tight end Zach Miller is the only legit offensive weapon. It’s deja vu all over again for Campbell.

Now the injury bug has struck. Campbell suffered a stinger and hurt his right wrist in Saturday’s preseason game. He’s expected to be okay, but nagging injuries in August have a tendency to carry over into the regular season. In addition, top running back Michael Bush fractured a thumb and could miss the September 12 game versus Tennessee, speedy receiver Chaz Schilens underwent arthroscopic knee surgery and will be out 3-6 weeks, and starting center Samson Satele is nursing a sprained ankle.

A wounded backfield. No wide receivers. A shaky offensive line. Welcome to the Black Hole, Jason Campbell. At least the weather is nice twelve months a year.
