Rejoice–NFL football fans have a reason to go on living thanks to an announcement by agent Drew Rosenhaus that his client Terrell ‘T.O.’ Owens is not planning to retirement despite off season surgery to repair a torn ACL. Rosenhaus sought to do damage control after reports that Owens was ‘damaged goods’ and insisted he’ll be ready to go in August:

“He’s many, many months into his recovery now. He’s doing fantastic.”

According to Rosenhaus, noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews performed the operation and thinks that an August return is well within the realm of probability. Rosenhaus quickly dismissed any suggestion that ‘T.O.’ might opt to retire:

“He is a legendary healer. He comes back from injury faster than anybody I’ve ever seen.”

Rosenhaus wouldn’t reveal exactly how Owens suffered the injury, but insisted it wasn’t during the taping of a reality TV show as had been widely reported. Other sources have suggested that T.O. suffered the injury during a ‘personal workout’ but with Rosenhaus not forthcoming on the matter any scenario is merely speculation.

Rosenhaus said that the surgery was on the same knee that Owens injured late in the 2010 NFL season but that the injuries were ‘unrelated’. He also said that the surgery and rehab have gone so smoothly that many people around his client have no idea that it has even taken place:

“He’s been around people for months that had no idea he had this surgery.”

Finally, Rosenhaus insists that Owens’ top priority for a new organization is the desire to win:

“The most important thing to him is he would like to win.”

Owens is second on the all time receiving yardage list behind the great Jerry Rice, and #3 on the receiving touchdowns list behind Rice and Randy Moss. He played for the Cincinnati Bengals last yearcatching 72 passes for 983 yards and nine touchdowns. Cincinnati had signed him to a one-year, $2 million contract last season. When the NFL lockout ends he’ll be a free agent but the reports of his injury could severely impact his market value and keep him out of action not only this season, but could possibly bring an end to his career.
