Tebow Working On Throwing Mechanics This Offseason

You can say what you want about Denver Broncos’ quarterback Tim Tebow but he’s most definitely not lazy. While other NFL players are spending the early part of the offseason playing golf or partying, Tebow is trying to improve his game–by working on his throwing mechanics. He’s in Los Angeles working with new UCLA offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone:
Mazzone says he’s a hard worker:
“He just came out here to throw and work on a few things and see if we can just become a little more efficient in what he’s doing. Throwing motion, footwork, everything I work on with all my quarterbacks.”
Mazzone suggests that sometimes an objective eye is the best solution:
“It’s kind of like a golfer who hit that bad drive. Every other guy in the foursome can tell you what you did wrong and all three opinions are different. We’re just going out and kind of going back to the basics and working on some fundamentals to try and become a little more efficient.”
He’s careful not to ‘step on the toes’ of the Broncos’ organization while working with Tebow:
“Obviously I wouldn’t do anything that would go against what their beliefs are. I know after coaching quarterbacks for a long time, they’re like girlfriends. You don’t like other guys messing with them.”
It’s doubtful that the Broncos would be upset–NFL rules limit the amount of offseason practice time teams are allowed with their players. There are no limits, however, on players working with ‘non affiliated’ coaches like Mazzone. Tebow may also pick up some tips from a rival–San Diego Chargers’ quarterback Phillip Rivers who is expected to join the workouts today along with Arizona State quarterback Brock Osweiler who is preparing for the NFL draft and Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback Christian Ponder:
“Philip is right down the road and he’s always itching to throw a football. He might shoot up and throw the ball around a little bit. That would be a good guy for both Brock and Tim to be around also.”
Tebow has worked with Mazzone before–he practiced with him before the 2010 NFL draft and again after last season.
