T.O. Calls Darrelle Revis Average

Leave it to Terrell Owens to kick the hornet’s nest. A hornet’s nest named Darrelle Revis, who just finished holding stud Andre Johnson to four catches for 32 yards on Sunday. Apparently Owens is still steaming over comments Revis made last season in which he referred to the then Bills receiver as a “slouch.” Leading up to their showdown on Thanksgiving night, Owens is doing his best to remind Revis he’s ready for some payback.

Owens didn’t mince his words on Tuesday when asked to describe Revis:

“Just an average corner to me… You talk about shutdown corners, you need to repeatedly do it year-in and year-out. I think he did it one year and everybody made a lot of hoopla about it. I think he started feeling himself, then he wanted to come out and say that I am a slouch.”

That “average” cornerback limited T.O. to six catches for 46 yards and zero touchdowns last season with the Bills. It’s fair to say Revis has probably been a bit overhyped, but since returning from a hamstring injury a few weeks ago he has kept Greg Jennings, Calvin Johnson and the aforementioned Andre Johnson out of the end zone.

Owens is having a Pro Bowl caliber season with 62 catches for 897 yards and eight touchdowns. Of course, that hasn’t resulted in wins for the Bengals, who are one of the league’s worst teams at 2-8. I guess he should be credited for calling attention to an otherwise uninteresting matchup the 8-2 Jets should win easily.

With the way the Bengals defense has been playing (49 points versus Buffalo), it’ll take a dominating performance from T.O., Ocho, Carson Palmer and the rest of the offense to prevent from being blown out. Then again, the Jets seem incapable of beating an opponent until the final seconds, so maybe it’ll end up being a close game.

Whatever the outcome, it should be fun watching Owens and Revis go head-to-head  on Turkey Day.
