Seven Fantasy Football Super-Sleepers
Added on Sep 02, 2010 by Scott in
Everyone knows about the fantasy sleepers. Players like Arian Foster, Zach Miller, Mike Wallace and Matt Stafford are likely on a smart owner’s radar. But what about those super-sleepers? The guys so far down the rankings they barely register. Chances are they won’t do much in 2010, but under the right circumstances, they could have an impact and make the owners who draft or pluck them off the waiver-wire look like geniuses. Here are seven who fit the description.
7. WR Riley Cooper (Eagles) – An injury to either DeSean Jackson or Jeremy Maclin puts the rookie from Florida smack dab in the spotlight of what should be a pretty potent passing offense. Coop has sticky hands and runs smooth routes. He could also be a legit redzone threat due to his 6’3″ frame. In touchdown-only leagues, he brings extra value.
6. RB Ryan Torain (Redskins) – The ‘Skins backfield picture is muddled. Clinton Portis, Larry Johnson and Willie Parker are all aging, broken-down runners. Torain, should he earn a roster spot, could find himself as the team’s top back at some point in 2010.
5. QB Jimmy Clausen (Panthers) – Matt Moore is hardly a proven commodity under center. Should he falter, the Panthers might turn to the Notre Dame rookie. Steve Smith is still a weapon, when healthy, so Clausen has a chance to post some decent stats if he becomes a starter.
4. WR Brian Robiskie (Browns) – Robiskie was a major bust in 2009, but he’s shown signs of life this preseason with six catches and a touchdown. Someone has to step up opposite number one receiver Mohamed Massaquoi. BR could be that guy.
3. RB Andre Brown (Giants) – Brandon Jacobs is fat and slow. Ahmad Bradshaw is prone to injury. Brown, who tore his Achilles in 2009, is back and running hard. When one of the two guys ahead of him goes down, Brown will get a shot to make some noise.
2. WR Brandon Tate (Patriots) – Tate is an immensely talented playmaker who just can’t stay healthy. However, if he can steer clear of the trainer’s room there’s a good possibility he could thrive as the Pats number three wideout. He’s also a solid return man.
1. RB Kareem Huggins (Bucs) – Free agent flop Derrick Ward was finally shown the door which means the undrafted runner from Hofstra is Cadillac Williams’ main backup. That’s big news because Cadillac is a safe bet to tear or break one of his body parts at some point during the season.
