Roy Williams, Class Act
Added on Jul 06, 2011 by Jack Thurman in
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Roy Williams is nothing if not a class act. It seems that Roy was dating Brooke Daniels, the 2009 Miss Texas, and proposed engagement. He gave her a ring, but things didn’t work out for our star crossed lovers. The engagement was broken off and now Roy wants the ring back.
Oh, but it gets better….the redoubtably classy Mr. Williams certainly knows that ‘diamonds are a girl’s best friend’ and coughed up $76,000 for the engagement ring–which HE SENT HER BY MAIL. Roy also sent her $5,000 for school and dental bills and a TAPED MARRIAGE PROPOSAL.
Surprisingly, despite getting a ring in the mail and a taped marriage proposal, Daniels declined to marry the Cowboys’ wide receiver. Roy asked for the ring back to which Daniels responded “I lost it”. Most likely she ‘lost it’ at a pawn shop.
So like generations of heartbroken men who propose via audiotape and by sending an engagement ring through the mail, Roy is resorting to the legal system to get his ring back. Yep, he’s ‘lawyered up’ and has filed a lawsuit to get the ring or his 76 large back. That’s how we know about Roy’s romantic ‘courtin” rituals of audiotaped proposals and rings sent through the mail.
Williams is especially petty–he even mentions that he sent Daniels’ brother ‘a baseball’ in the lawsuit. A dozen Rawlings NCAA official baseballs can be had for about $50, so we’ll give Roy the benefit of the doubt and assume that he’s out $5 for the baseball. Less postage, of course–unless he sent the baseball in the same package as the ring and/or his taped proposal.
Roy has already tried to file an insurance claim with State Farm over the ring. They investigated and found that the ring was *not* lost. They declined to pursue the claim, however, since the ring was a gift. But the plot thickens! In the grand tradition of Cam Newton’s meddling dad, Cecil, it turns out that the father of Roy’s former paramour–Michael Williams–has the ring. He’s says they’re going to return it to ‘avoid legal issues’ but that neither he nor his daughter ever told ‘our hero’ that the ring had been lost. Here’s what daddy Daniels has to say:
“He said to [Brooke], ‘I’m not like a lot of people, I don’t want the ring back. You’ll eventually come back to me,’ and she didn’t.”
“I want to wash my hands of it. It’s just a hassle. I’ll take care of my daughter. I don’t need him.”
While it’s surprising that Brooke could resist the charm and charisma of Roy Williams, it’s probably worked out for the best for everyone concerned.
