Losing with dignity is a quality in short supply in the current NFL–in the NFC you’ve got the San Francisco Kyle Williams continuing to boo hoo about a few poorly behaved fans on Twitter, suggesting that he’s facing more death threats than Salman Rushdie. Over in the AFC you’ve got the Baltimore Ravens’ Bernard Pollard whining like a little girl because his team lost to the New England Patriots.

Pollard already has a reputation as a ‘Patriot killer’, basically meaning that he’s a cheap shot artist. He took out Tom Brady for the entire season in 2008 and tried to do the same thing to New England’s all pro tight end Rob Gronkowski in the AFC Championship. He says he’s proud of the reputation:

“It’s part of the game. If you don’t like it, so what? I am going to go out there and I’m going to play me.”

Worth noting that despite his tough guy talk Pollard will be at home watching the Super Bowl on TV while the Pats–including Brady and Gronkowski–will actually be playing in the game.

Pollard stomped some more sour grapes as he complained about the Pats ‘dink and dunk’ offense:

“If the game got to overtime, we knew we were going to the Super Bowl. I think we played a really good game. We had some things where we made some mistakes or whatever, but just for the most part, dinking and dunking wasn’t going to win in 22 seconds (if the Ravens scored and the Patriots got the ball back.”

And he’s backing the Giants in the Super Bowl, natch…

“To lose to a team like (the Patriots), the way we played. We played a good game. You have to look at what the Giants have — they have a front four that’s relentless, they have a secondary that is really, really good. They have a linebacking corps that has been with them. The (Patriots’) dinking and dunking, man, it’s just not going to happen. They’re going to have to take shots down the field.”

Current Super Bowl betting lines have the Patriots installed as around a field goal favorite over the Giants despite all of Pollard’s recriminations.
