Randy Moss Mounting a Comeback

Just when we thought we heard the last from wide receiver Randy Moss after he “retired” prior to the 2011 season, the petulant pass catcher celebrated his 35th birthday early this morning by announcing plans to return to the field. Sounding similar to another behaviorally challenged former wideout who loves talking about himself, Moss intends to catch on with a team in 2012.

In lieu of a respectable media outlet, Moss delivered the news via Ustream.tv.

“I just wanna go to a team and play some football,” Moss said in an appearance commemorating his 35th birthday… I said I had a surprise for y’all,” Moss added not long after showing off a bag of his hair and pointing out that it smelled “musty,” like “sauerkraut.”

Who wouldn’t take a guy seriously who displays a bag of old hair that smells like sauerkraut? He continued.

“Faith, family, and football, that’s my M.O., bro,” Moss said.  “Your boy be back for the upcoming season.”

Evidently he’s been working on his rhyming since hanging up the cleats. Considering how abysmal he was in 2010, he would’ve been better suited running crisper routes and rediscovering a desire to play the game, two things that were missing the last time he donned a professional uniform.

Moss’s mercurial career was highlighted by awesome displays of unique athleticism and moments of infantile jackassery. His deep speed might be the fastest the league has ever seen, but the propensity to wear out his welcome in Minnesota, Oakland and New England detracted from an otherwise brilliant statistical career that saw him snag 153 touchdowns in 13 seasons.

With a glut of supremely talented wide receivers and tight ends entering the league in recent years, Moss (like Terrell Owens) might find the number of potential suitors low. Once a player of his caliber loses his speed, teams lose interest quickly. It’s unlikely he’d be able to contribute much of anything at this stage of his life.
