Now that the Super Bowl is over, the NFL will go about the business of transitioning into the offseason. The Scouting Combine, free agency and April Draft are all right around the corner, but until then, football will take a backseat to basketball and hockey. But before we close the books on the season for good, here are some stories making headlines.

Eli elite? – Head coach Tom Coughlin says the debate over whether Eli Manning is an elite quarterback is done. Tough to argue the point after two Super Bowl MVP awards. With Eli and Peyton heading in opposite career directions, it will be interesting to see if little bro’s legacy can supplant big bro’s.

Pats party – Patriots offensive lineman Matt Light and tight end Rob Gronkowski were spotted dancing shirtless Sunday night at a post-game party. Guess Gronk’s ankle was feeling better.

Ratings record – For the third straight year, the Super Bowl became the most-watched program in television history, reaching an estimated 166 million viewers. The series finale of M.A.S.H. and the last three Super Bowls are the only broadcasts to eclipse 100 million viewers in the U.S.

Brett Favre is happy – Take it with a grain of salt, but Brett Favre is apparently content in retirement. He admitted to being mentally burned out and claimed he didn’t miss the NFL drind at all.

Moreno arrested – Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno was busted last week for drunk and careless driving. He was clocked doing 70 mph in a 45 mph construction zone. Well, at least he can drive fast.

Seattle wants the Big Game – The Seahawks have applied to be the home city for a future Super Bowl. The February weather in the Pacific Northwest is usually less than ideal, but it can’t be much worse than New Jersey, which will host Super Bowl XLVIII.

Haley hired? – Former Chiefs head coach Todd Haley has reportedly been offered the Steelers vacant offensive coordinator job. He held the same position with Arizona in 2007 and 2008.
