With the 2012 Draft only days away, the buzz in and around NFL circles is beginning to heat up. Potential trade scenarios are being considered, players are signing franchise tenders and Tim Tebow remains a fixture in the headlines of newspapers and websites across the land. Here are the latest developments circulating throughout the league and team offices.
Colts get Luck(y) – The worst kept secret has finally been revealed. The Colts will in fact select Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck with the first overall pick on Thursday night. We knew this months ago, but for some strange reason Indy owner Jim Irsay thought playing head games would be fun.
Simpson likes purple – Free agent wide receiver Jerome Simpson has a new home in Minnesota after inking a one-year deal earlier today. He’s coming off his best season as a pro, but could face a suspension stemming from his felony drug conviction.
Brent Grimes signs tender – The Falcons promising cover cornerback wants a long-term deal, but settled for the one-year tender that will net him over $10 million in 2012. The Asante Samuel to Atlanta rumor likely had something to do with Grimes caving.
Tebow is “Special” – Rex Ryan and the Jets are really milking the mystery behind Tebow’s role on the team. The latest tidbit suggests the Jets will use him as the punt protector. Have no fear. Once he replaces Mark Sanchez in Week 3 his “pp” duties will probably be reassigned.
RG III Saying all the right things – Score one point for Robert Griffin III’s PR posse. The would-be number two pick says he has to “beat out” Rex Grossman for the starting job in D.C. Yeah, and Andrew Luck has to beat out Drew Stanton. Please.
Revis on an island? – The Jets All-Pro corner is threatening another prolonged holdout similar to the one he staged in 2010. Most of the cash from the four-year deal he eventually inked was packed into the first two years. Now, his 2012 salary makes him look underpaid again. Stay tuned, this one could get ugly.
