NFL Betting Preview: Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars
Added on Oct 18, 2010 by Jack Thurman in
The NFL betting week concludes on Monday night as the Tennessee Titans travel to Jacksonville to play the Jaguars. Probably won’t be the highest rating Monday Night Football game of the season especially considering its up against the Yankees and Rangers as they head to New York to continue the ALCS. Both AFC South teams enter the game at 3-2 SU, so the winner will put themselves in a three way tie for the division lead with Indianapolis and Houston.

Tough game to handicap as much for the personalities of the teams involved as the matchup fundamentals. Both teams have talent, but both are capable of erratic performances. Jacksonville, in particular, can look very good or downright embarrassing. This is a team that can look completely noncompetitive against Philadelphia and come back the next week and beat Indianapolis. Not surprisingly, the Jags are led by an erratic quarterback in David Garrard who has talent but hasn’t been very sharp in the last year or so. Jacksonville has a long entry in the NFL injury report, but as of Sunday most of the important contributers including running back Maurice Jones-Drew were listed as ‘probable’.
The Titans also have their share of injuries, but the most significant name on their injury report is running back Chris Johnson who has been upgraded to ‘probable’. Tennessee QB Vince Young is very similar in terms of his skill set as Eagles’ QB Michael Vick and that doesn’t bode well for Jacksonville–Vick shredded the Jags’ secondary which for whatever reason had more trouble with him than with Peyton Manning one week later (though Manning put up 352 yards and 3 TDs). In theory, we like the idea of taking a MNF home dog–and especially one that seldom plays in high profile TV games. We also like going against the ‘public’ which is on the Titans here. Ultimately, the Tennessee skill position players on offense are much more consistant than their Jacksonville counterparts and especially RB Johnson who has 7 straight 100 yard rushing games on the road. Titans have covered 5 of their last 6 away games while the Jags have been one of the worst home investments in the NFL since 2008 with a 5-14 ATS mark.
