Added on Sep 24, 2010 by Jack Thurman in
Big weekend of football betting ahead and we’ll look at a Week 3 matchup between the Oakland Raiders and Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals are 1-1 and off a lopsided loss at Atlanta while Oakland is off a win over St. Louis. Big news out of Oakland this week was the demotion of starting QB Jason Campbell with Bruce Gradkowski named the new starter.

The quarterback controversy in Oakland has received all of the media attention, but they’ve got bigger problems due to injuries on both sides of the ball as well as personnel liabilities like rookie center Jared Veldheer. Raiders have a respectable ATS record away from home (9-8) but they’ve been awful SU with a record of 6-11. They’ve also been awful in non-conference games in the last three years (2-7 ATS/3-6 SU). They’ve also failed to cover in two spots as a road dog in this price range over the past three years (+3′ to +7).
The perception is that Arizona is down significantly from their Superbowl contenders of the past few years and while that may be true they’re still a lot better than the Raiders. Derek Anderson is a significant downgrade from Kurt Warner, but he’s got a lot of talent around him and particularly in the receiving corps with Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Breaston. Beanie Wells will likely be back this week and that gives the Cards a pair of solid running backs along with Tim Hightower. Cards are 12-7 ATS at home in the last three years and we look for them to take care of business in their 2010 home opener.
