As we discussed last week, we want no part of this Cincinnati team when they’re laying points. In fact, the only time we do want anything to do with the Bengals is when they’re underdogs. Cincy is currently on a 2-12 ATS run as a favorite though they have covered once when laying points this year–that’s something of an accomplishment since they were 0-8 ATS as a chalk in 2009. Cincy is also on a 9-19 ATS run during the last three years against AFC opponents and are 8-11 ATS at home. In October games since 2008 they’re 3-8 SU/ATS.
Miami may not be loaded with skill position talent but they do one thing that we like and which should be enough to get them the win here–they’re a very physical team. They went toe to toe with the brutal Steelers last week and that same effort here will allow them to dominate the less physical Bengals. The Dolphins have trouble against teams that can put points on the board, but Cincinnati isn’t one of those–they’ve scored 24+ points only once in their last 15 games. Miami has been an exceptional road underdog under Tony Sparano going 14-4 ATS. They’ve won and covered all three away games this season and are currently on a six game ATS winning streak (5-1 SU) as a road dog of less than 3. Against a Cincinnati team that doesn’t score a lot of points, the Dolphins toughness and physical play should be enough to get Miami the outright victory.
