NFL Betting Preview: Indianapolis Colts at Washington Redskins Total
Added on Oct 14, 2010 by Jack Thurman in
More NFL betting on Sunday as we take a look at the totals play on the game between the Indianapolis Colts and Washington Redskins. We previewed the side play in this game earlier this week and we also like a play on the Over/Under in this game. Indy will be trying to build some momentum from their win over Kansas City, and Washington will be looking to do the same following their victory over Green Bay.

In our preview of the side play we talked about the fact that the Colts won last week despite a substandard (by his lofty expectations) game for Peyton Manning. We sure don’t expect Manning to have another bad game. He’s on a short list of the most consistantly excellent and efficient quarterbacks in NFL history, and the Washington Redskins secondary is ‘ripe for the picking’. As we noted in our side preview, the Redskins have the #31 ranked pass defense in the NFL *despite* not facing many top level quarterbacks in favorable situations for them. Their performance against the only top level QB they’ve faced other than Aaron Rodgers (with the Packers decimated by injuries) –Houston’s Matt Schaub –doesn’t bode well for them here. Schaub shredded the ‘skins secondary for 468 yards and 3 touchdowns and Manning is clearly a cut above him.
At the same time, the Colts’ defense is vulnerable and Donovan McNabb should be able to pass effectively and put some points on the board. Indy’s defense has been underrated and very good in past years, but they’ve underachieved this season entering this contest ranked only #25 in total defense. Their passing defense numbers don’t look bad at first glance (ranked #14 at 203 yards per game) but like Washington they’ve benefited from a schedule without many top flight QB’s. When they played Houston, the Texans attacked them on the ground. Against pass oriented Denver, Kyle Orton ripped them for 472 yards and they’ve lost depth in their secondary since then. There’s some rain in the forecast over the next couple of days but Sunday looks perfect with a forecast calling for clear skies and mild temps. Five of the last six meetings between the teams have gone Over including three straight at Washington.
