With a couple of slow sports betting days upon us we’ll start to look ahead to the weekend’s football action.  In this post we’ll look at a NFL game for Sunday as the Green Bay Packers travel to the Nation’s Capital to take on the Washington Redskins.  Green Bay is 3-1 and off of a lackluster performance against the Detroit Lions.  Washington is 2-2 and off of a victory over Donovan McNabb’s old team, the Phildelphia Eagles.

Good scheduling spot for a bounce back effort for the Packers with Washington off of that emotional return to Philadelphia for Donovan McNabb.   Saying that a team is ‘due to win’ is the province of ‘squares’, but at the very least the Packers are “due” to turn in a better effort than they have in last week’s home game against Detroit (where the Lions had a shot at pulling the outright upset as +14′ point dogs) and the road loss at Chicago.   Pass coverage has been the Redskins’ big problem in 2010–prior to the game against Philadelphia the Washington secondary was shredded by Matt Schaub and Sam Bradford.  And with all due respect to the aforementioned quarterbacks, neither are in Aaron Rodgers’ league yet.

In addition we’ve got some good statistical justification for a play on Green Bay.  It’s a matchup of a good ATS road team against a bad ATS home team.  Packers are 11-7 ATS on the road in the last three years and 21-9-1 ATS in their last 31 games away.  They’re also a very good natural grass team and are currently on a 8-3-1 ATS run their last 12 games on real grass.  Washington are 6-11 ATS at home in the last 3 years and are currently on a 4-12 ATS run at FedEx Field.  With the Packers a bad matchup for the Redskins defense and Washington in a Philadelphia/Indianapolis sandwich we look for the Packers to roll here.
