The Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills both have losing records, but they’ve also started to show some promise as the NFL season has progressed.  They’ll face each other Sunday on the Bills’ home field in upstate New York.  Buffalo is 2-10 SU on the season but are 4-2-1 ATS in their last 7 games.  Cleveland has won 4 of their last 6 games after a slow start to the season and is currently 5-7 SU.

We respect the Bills’ effort and think they’ve got a lot of components that they can build on going forward.  That being said, this is a horrible tactical matchup for them.  Buffalo is ranked #26 in total defense and dead last in rushing defense allowing 170.9 yards per game on the ground.  For that reason alone, this game against the Cleveland Browns and human wrecking ball Peyton Hillis could get ugly.  There have been three Cleveland Brown players to rush for 11 or more touchdowns in a season.  Two of them–Jim Brown and Leroy Kelly–are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  The third is Peyton Hillis.  We’re not ready to say he’s bound for immortality and enshrinement in Canton, Ohio but are willing to say that he’s one of the best running backs in the NFL.

Hillis has been pretty much unstoppable in the past month or so–he’s got 6 touchdowns in his last 5 games.  Hillis doesn’t get the credit he deserves likely because he’s not a ‘finesse’ running back like Barry Sanders or Walter Peyton–he’s a moose and a perfect fit in a Cleveland offense that just tries to beat their opponents with smashmouth football.  Against a Bills’ team that showed signs of wearing down against the dysfunctional Vikings last week he could have his biggest game of the year.  The Browns are never a trendy ‘public’ pick but they have covered 13 of their last 18 AFC games.  They’re the team in better form with a powerful running game and superior defense and actually will benefit more from the rainy, cold forecast for Sunday than the home team.
