Jags

The Jacksonville Jaguars have pulled atop the AFC South and can take over sole possession with a victory here.  Even with a loss they’ll remain in a first place tie with the Indianapolis Colts at 7-6.  Oakland has had their ups and downs this season but is coming off a win over San Diego and still has an outside chance of catching Kansas City atop the AFC West.

Truth be told, we’re not sold on either of these teams.  Jacksonville has won 4 of 5 due in large part to some decent production (finally) from Maurice Jones-Drew who has put together five straight 100 yard rushing games.  David Garrard is still a very erratic quarterback–in the past two games he’s got a 2 to 6 TD to interception ratio.  And don’t forget that the Jaguars have been among the worst investments as a favorite in the entire NFL during recent years.  Since 2008, the Jags are 3-12 ATS as a favorite and 1-8 ATS as a favorite of -3′ to -9′ points.  They are 4-2 ATS at home this year but only 7-15 ATS at home since 2008.

Still, we can’t recommend a play on Oakland here coming off a victory and making the coast to coast trip for an early start time game.  Oakland’s offense line is porous and their best defensive player–Nnamdi Asomugha–has been playing with a hurt ankle.  He’s listed as ‘questionable’ but expected to play though won’t be 100%.  Not overly enthused with either team but since we don’t see the Raiders’ defense stopping Jones-Drew we’ve got to back the home team and look for Jacksonville to win and cover as small home favorites.

Bet Jacksonville Jaguars -3′ over Oakland Raiders
