Important NFC East battle between the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football. Currently these teams are part of a three way deadlock in the division with a 2-1 record. The Eagles are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Arizona Cardinals while the Giants are coming into this game off an impressive road victory over the Carolina Panthers.

These teams are both 2-1 but have gone about it in a decidedly different manner. The Giants were upset by the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1 of the season but have won their next two games. The Eagles, meanwhile, were lucky to win their first two games–they played poorly but escaped with a 1 point victory in each. That set up last week’s lopsided loss to the nasty defense of the Arizona Cardinals.

There are apparently people out there that still think Philadelphia is a good team. 12 turnovers, tons of penalties and generally undisciplined play tends to suggest otherwise. There is at least one argument for Philadelphia here–they have covered 7 of the last 8 in the series. That was then, however, but this is now. The Giants have been a great investment as an underdog–since 2009 the G-Men are 10-6 SU/11-5 ATS. They’ve also been a strong road team (12-6 SU/11-7 ATS) and have put up good numbers against opponents with winning records (13-6 SU/12-6-1 ATS).

More importantly, this is a bad matchup for the Eagles. Their backers are trying to suggest that last week’s meltdown was due to a ‘lookahead’ spot but in reality it was the inevitable result of playing a good team with a tough defense. They won their Week 1 game against Cleveland due to a late game miscue by rookie QB Brandon Weeden. They won their Week 2 game against Baltimore due to a favorable (and perhaps incorrect) call by replacement refs. Now they’ve got to face the Giants’ nasty pass rush while trying to match points with Eli Manning who has looked very sharp of late. Things are starting to come together for the Super Bowl champions while things are starting to unravel for the Eagles.
