What has long been considered one of the most competitive divisions in pro football is living up to its reputation in 2012. With two weeks left in the regular season, the NFC East is deadlocked in a three-way tie. The Redskins, Cowboys and Giants all sit at 8-6, and making matters more dramatic, the ‘Skins and ‘Boys will square off in a Week 17 battle that could ultimately decide the title. But which team is best equipped to seize the crown?

Washington Redskins – Winners of five straight, Washington showed yesterday they are more than just RG III’s ship. Backup quarterback and fellow rookie Kirk Cousins tossed for 329 yards and a pair of touchdowns in defeating a feisty Browns team. Their defense is still vulnerable to potent passing attacks, but they are forcing turnovers. A healthy Pierre Garcon has added punch and the Shanahans have a young roster believing in themselves. Bottom line: the Redskins are inexperienced but very dangerous.

Dallas Cowboys – Three consecutive victories has jampacked the Cowboys bandwagon once again. The return of DeMarco Murray has helped balance the offense and alleviated some of the pressure from Tony Romo’s shoulders. Speaking of Romo, his decision making has been sound as of late, which is always key to the direction this team steers. The explosive Saints come to Big D next Sunday before the aforementioned season closer in D.C. Romo must remain under control for Jerry Jones’ fading dreams of Super Bowl glory to come true.

New York Giants – Here we go again. The Giants are an enigma. Are they the team that crushed the Packers and Saints at home, or the team that looked sloppy and out of sorts in road losses to Washington and Atlanta? A showdown with the equally puzzling Ravens in Baltimore looms. Eli Manning played one of his worst game in years against the Falcons, and the defense appeared dazed and confused for four quarters. Tom Coughlin has worked his motivational magic before, so don’t count Big Blue out just yet. They are capable of digging deep during dire straits.
