Michael Vick Doubtful For Sunday’s Game At San Francisco

In the most inevitable karmic backlash since O.J. Simpson decided to retrieve sports memorabilia at gunpoint,  Michael Vick was injured early in Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins and was unable to return.  At the time the injury occurred there was speculation over what exactly Vick had injured–some said he gestured to his collarbone, others said it was a wrist injury but as it turns out its a rib injury.  He reportedly doesn’t have any broken ribs, though the cartilage between his second and third rib may be cracked.

ESPN, which has been gushing over Vick since he got out of the ‘gray bar motel’ like Rolling Stone’s embarrassing tongue bath of Obama in their latest issue, hopefully indicates his status as ‘day to day’.  Presumably they expect Tony Dungy to come lay his hands on the afflicted area and heal him immediately.  More objective sources are less optimistic.  Sports Betting World betting guru Jack Thurman just informed me that his high priced premium live odds feed service indicates that Vick’s status for Sunday’s game has been ‘downgraded to doubtful’.  He further indicates that said service has an impressive track record not only of being right, but being first with the news of injuries and their severity so I’m inclined to trust that prognosis more than the cheerleaders and catch phrase stammerers at ESPN.

I did have an epiphany strike me while I was driving my luxury sedan to the Sports Betting World offices this morning–and no, an ‘epiphany’ isn’t a high end European car you haven’t heard of, it’s a fancy word for ‘realization’.  Michael Vick is the best ready made excuse for horrendous personnel decisions and questionable coaching that Andy Reid and the Philadelphia Eagles staff could have at this point.  Just look at the rationalizations you’re already hearing from the Philly fans and media that they would have won against McNabb and the Redskins had Vick been in the game.  Never mind that when he left the Eagles were down 14-0, though they did outscore the Skins the rest of the way with Kevin Kolb under center.  At this point, an extended injury for Vick is the best thing that can happen to Andy Reid–despite every bit of evidence to the contrary he’s hoodwinked Philly fans into believing that they’ve got a contender as long as Vick is playing.  As we’ve said in the past, he’s probably their best option behind a porous offensive line but with or without Vick this is a bad football team.  Yet Reid can now can rationalize away every loss while Vick is out due to injury–should they lose next week at San Francisco, he can simply infer that it would have been much different had Vick been in the game.

All in all, it was a bad Sunday for Philadelphia on the injury front Vick notwithstanding–LeSean McCoy broke a rib in the first half but played through it. Pro Bowl cornerback Asante Samuel and wide receiver Riley Cooper sustained concussions. All three are listed as ‘doubtful’ for Sunday’s game at San Francisco.
