Laurence Maroney Dealt to the Broncos

When a first round picks busts, especially at an offensive skill position, it hurts a team in more than one way to move on from him.
The 2006 1st round pick of the New England Patriots has been ingrained as the “fringe” starter for the past three years now, but never secured the starting job in his three year and one game career with New England.
Maroney has dealt with many injuries during his tenure with the Patriots, but he’s also suffered through vast inconsistencies and a lack of production.
With such a great offense around him, he’s had every opportunity to succeed, but with guys like Kevin Faulk, BenJarves Green-Ellis, and Fred Taylor splitting carries with him, it was time to move on.
He was traded to his former offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels in Denver for a 4th round pick (and Denver gave up a 6th rounder) and will be Knowshon Moreno’s main backup.
He’ll have a chance to challenge to be the consistent spell back to Moreno, but his days as a potential starter are all but over, barring an injury and an unseen influx of consistency and drive by Maroney.
