Jerry Jones Gives His Opinion on the Eagles Switch at Quarterback

While the New York Jets have been the headline stealers of the past few weeks, “America’s Team” in Dallas is always a constant source for some NFL gab. And when an eccentric owner is the team’s GM (and rumored to be “aiding” the coaching staff since Bill Parcels left), he’s not afraid to speak his mind.
So when asked about the Eagles transition from former Pro Bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb to inexperienced Kevin Kolb, Jerry Jones had this to say:
“McNabb helped create those big swings in our games over the last 10 years. When he played well, it was like throwing the knockout punch. When he didn’t, you were able to throw the knockout punch.”
“I don’t see that now [with Kolb]. I think Kolb and the way they’re going about it now, you won’t have those big swings one way or the other. I think every game with them is going to be a battle. Because of Kolb and because the makeup of the rest of their team is solid. And their coach, there is not a better coach in the NFL than Andy [Reid].”

While that doesn’t mean much in his fortune telling of how the NFC East, the toughest conference in the NFL almost without question, it does show that Jerry Jones is like most football fans in his way of seeing the move to “move-on” from the McNabb era to the Kolb era as a good one.
In my opinion, McNabb is the most under-appreciated player of the past ten or fifteen years, and probably rivals Dan Fouts for among the most all-time. McNabb is statistically one of the most efficient and versatile quarterbacks to ever play the game, and while he doesn’t boast the ring lik Brady, Manning, or Brees, he did win the NFC East for four years in a row, and played in a Super Bowl.
With the Cowboys having tons of talent across the board and the Redskins commitment to their offense by adding McNabb, two solid offensive tackles, and more talent to their running back pool along with the Giants who have one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, it’s not going to be easy for Kevin Kolb to mimic McNabb’s consistent success in Philly.
Kolb may end up being a success in Philadelphia, and right now, he’s living large in the support area. I mean, even opposing teams are saying it was a smart move, as it Jerry Jones. But after a few three interception games, you know you’ll see some #5 jerseys out at Lincoln Financial Field, and Kolb will learn quickly that it’s not easy playing in Philly.
And while Jerry Jones gives the Eagles kudos on the transition, he might end up in the press box with a wide smile on his face as DeMarcus Ware pummels Kolb to the ground or Terrence Newman runs back a pick-six when the ‘Boys play the Eagles twice this year.
