How soft has the NFL become? Soft enough that Patriots’ Rob Gronkowski was dancing shirtless like a San Francisco club kid after losing the Super Bowl and now apparently soft enough that Brandon Jacobs isn’t willing to stand by his criticism of Tom Brady’s out of pocket wife.

By now everyone knows that Brady’s old lady, super model Gisele Bundchen, openly criticized her husband’s teammates after the Patriots’ Super Bowl loss. Brady has yet to put her back in tow and not surprisingly many people had problems with Gisele’s mouth. One was Brandon Jacobs, who made the relatively innocuous quip that she should “stay cute and shut up.”

Back in the day there would have been no problem with Jacobs’ comment, everyone would have had a good laugh at Brady’s expense and life would have gone on. Not in today’s ‘sensitive’ NFL–after the media and assorted others got their silky panties in a wad Jacobs backtracked:

“Given the fact that it’s a colleague of mine’s wife, I do apologize for saying that, because I shouldn’t have said that. It’s his wife and I should respect that just as much as anyone else.”

The fault here isn’t with Jacobs’ comments it’s with Brady, who is apparently unwilling–or unable–to keep his female in pocket. Jacobs showed at least a little backbone, reaffirming that Brady’s female was ‘cute’:

“No question, he should take that as a compliment. If he finds something wrong with that, then that’s his problem.”

Osi Umenyiora shockingly didn’t have a problem with Gisele being out of pocket:

“I mean, that is her husband. She is supposed to stay out of things like that, but at the end of the day that is their relationship and she has the right to say whatever she wants to.”

Asked if she should apologize Osi replied:

“Nah, she shouldn’t. Listen, man, we just won the Super Bowl. We are not saying nothing about no one, whatever her name is.”

The Giants have opened as a 20/1 choice in NFL futures betting to defend their Super Bowl title. Surprisingly, the henpecked Patriots are 8/1 to avenge their 2012 loss.
