Is There A Penalty For Crotch-Grabbing?
Added on Sep 28, 2010 by Scott in
File this under odd… and funny. Chiefs defensive tackle Shaun Smith has a unique strategy for drawing penalties against opposing offensive lineman. Is it trash-talking? No. What about jersey-clutching? Nah. It seems Smith’s method of choice is crotch-grabbing. That’s right pigskin fans, the big man likes to touch other dudes’ junk. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Unless you happen to be one of his unsuspecting victims.
Browns center Alex Mack was the first to hurl accusations after having his private parts fondled during a September 19th game versus Kansas City. Then 49ers tackle Anthony Davis reported similar horseplay during Sunday’s 31-10 loss.
“He tried to feel me,” Davis said. “That’s weird, right?”
Yes, Anthony. That is weird.
It worked though, because Davis was flagged for retaliating the alleged molestation. Either Chiefs head honcho Todd Haley is teaching some interesting tackling techniques, or Smith has invented a whole new spin on the traditional handshake greeting.
Naturally, Smith denies any such groin attacks.
“I don’t have no comment,” Smith said following the Browns game. “I don’t recall doing anything like that. I’m not known for being a dirty player or anything like that, so I don’t know what that was all about.”
I can’t imagine forgetting something like groping another man’s package, and I seriously doubt Mack and Davis are lying. Where there’s smoke there’s fire, or in Smith’s case, where there’s crotch there’s his hand.
