Vikings-Harvin

When the Vikings drafted Harvin in the 1st round in 2009, he fell a few slots due to his history of migraines over his career. The Vikings took a chance on him, and it paid huge dividends in his rookie season, as he earned rookie of the year honors.

But in the early part of year two of his career, a scary collapse and widespread speculation turns the Vikings from draft stealers to cautious supporters about Percy Harvin.

After his collapse, Harvin was in the hospital and recovering for a few days, and was said to be on a path of recovery from his most recent serious relapse. As said before, these migraines were nothing new for Harvin, they just weren’t as damaging and less widely known.

After his first pre-season game of the year last night, Harvin played pretty well. His explosiveness was back, his speed was still there, and the headaches he caused for opposing defenders and coaches seemed like it never left.

After the game, Harvin went on to say the follow:

“We did find something. It’s not life-threatening, but it’s something that we need to work on, and we will….They found some things that we think is the main cause of it…I’m not saying I won’t ever get a headache again, but hopefully, we can slow it down a little bit.”

So what can we gather from those statements? Well, the Vikings team doctors are likely going to watch one of the team’s most important players very closely, and do more than enough tests to ensure he’s 100 percent. And, that Harvin likely understands his condition better, and he will likely be able to manage and control it much better.

However, he does make it clear that this may not be, and likely won’t be, the last time he suffers from a migraine. And if another incident happens later this year or even next year, his future with an NFL team could be drastically reduced playing time, or not at all in the league.
