Favre To Meet With NFL Officials, Declined Meeting Last Week

Brett Favre had another dismal game on Sunday, though Minnesota did pull out an ugly win despite ‘The Gunslinger’ only throwing for 118 yards and one touchdown. Favre said that his on-going ‘Penis-gate’ scandal over his clumsy effort to woo sideline reporter Jenn Sterger hasn’t been a distraction, though he repeatedly declined requests to be interviewed by NFL investigators last week.
The league apparently had enough, and gave him a ‘final offer’ to meet with NFL security chief Milt Ahlerich in Minneapolis on Monday or Tuesday. According to reports from local media, that pow wow will take place on Tuesday. Ahlerich served with the FBI for 25 years for joining the NFL, so it’s doubtful that he’ll be satisfied with half assed answers.
Favre did address the investigation in very general terms after today’s game:
“I don’t expect anything. … I’m concerned about the next game. I’ll let that take its course.”
He also said that the Vikings’ slow start was enough pressure and that the ongoing scandal and media frenzy hasn’t added any:
“I don’t feel any added pressure. The fact that we were 1-3 was enough.”
Favre still acts like he’s a ‘victim’ in this whole situation. As we’ve noted before, assuming that Sterger didn’t try to get him to leave her alone he’s probably not run afoul of any laws. He’s a bad husband but that’s Mrs. Favre’s problem and not the NFL’s. He’s possibly guilty of sexual harassment of some sort but once again that would require Sterger to claim she was harassed.
So far, however, Sterger hasn’t said anything either to law enforcement or, more recently, NFL investigators. Sterger has so far not cooperated with NFL investigators and without that there’s not much that can be done with Favre. And don’t forget that there’s still the dodge that the person on the text messages, voicemails and in the infamous ‘penis n Crocs’ photo only ‘suggested’ that he was Favre. Sterger’s people did issue a statement earlier this week:
“This is something that allegedly happened two years ago. We don’t want a quick resolution, but the proper resolution.”
Translation: ’show me the money’.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell plans to meet with Favre only if the investigation suggests that ‘The Gunslinger’ has violated the league’s personal conduct policy. Even if Favre did send the messages, the policy (which is here if you want to read it) doesn’t prohibit being a sleazy horndog. Unless Sterger cooperates, there sure doesn’t seem to be a basis under which he could be punished.
