Fantasy Football: Week 10 Value Picks

The bye weeks are on a bye in Week 10. But for some odd reason they will return next week before finally going away altogether. I’m sure there’s a reasonable explanation for why the NFL chose not to have all the byes run seamlessly, but I’ve yet to find one. Anyway, fantasy owners can rejoice because they will have the full complement of 32 teams from which to fill out their lineups. If you’re still looking for some bargains, here are a handful to consider.

Mark Sanchez (vs. NE) – Recommending Sanchez comes with a caveat. There’s always the chance he lays a massive egg and throws three interceptions and loses a fumble. That said, he does face the Patriots 32nd ranked pass defense at home on Sunday. The same pass defense that has been shredded by Chad Henne, Jason Campbell and Eli Manning. Now, Sanchez only threw for 166 yards and two touchdowns in the first meeting, but he did toss for 220 yards and three scores in last season’s game at the New Meadowlands.

Roy Helu (@ MIA) – Only Ben Tate has eclipsed 100 yards against the ‘Phins rush defense. The Redskins backfield is the opposite of stable. So, why the hell would anyone considering starting the rookie Helu? Well, he did combine for 146 yards versus the league’s best run defense a week ago and is pretty much Washington’s only offensive option. Will he catch a franchise record 14 balls again? No, but five or six receptions and 100 total yards makes him a decent flex consideration.

Laurent Robinson (vs. BUF) – There’s a pretty good chance Robinson is still available on waiver wires, so grab if you can especially if you own Miles Austin. He’s only caught two fewer passes than Dez Bryant and has scored a touchdown in consecutive weeks. With Austin out for a significant amount of time and the Cowboys possessing a potent passing attack, Robinson will make a credible number three wide receiver for the foerseeable future. Start him and feel good about it.

Visanthe Shiancoe (@ GB) – All it took for Shiancoe to return to fantasy relevance was rookie Christian Ponder taking over the staring quarterback duties. Seven catches for 82 yards and a score in the last two games aren’t Jimmy Graham numbers, but that touchdown did come against the Packers three weeks ago. The Vikings will have to throw to keep pace on Monday night and Green Bay’s 31st ranked secondary has been yielding huge production to opposing tight ends all season. If you need Shiancoe, get him in your lineup.

Dolphins D/ST (vs. WAS) – The ‘Skins have scored a whopping 11 points the last two weeks. Miami is coming off a dominating 31-3 drubbing of the Chiefs and has notched 12 sacks in their last three games. This has all the makings of a 13-10 snoozefest. Neither team is very explosive, and Washington, in particular, lacks a legit vertical threat in the passing game. Bottom line: don’t expect any offensive fireworks in this one.
