With the main event matchup between the New York Jets’ all world safety Darrelle Revis and his arch enemy Randy Moss of the New England Patriots on deck, both Revis and coach Rex Ryan downplayed the significance of a ‘tight hamstring’ that kept him out of practice on Thursday.  Maybe they should have paid more attention to it–Revis had to watch the second half of the Jets’ win over the Patriots from the sideline after injuring his hamstring.  He’ll have the full battery of tests this week, but early indication is that he’s pulled the hamstring muscle that he complained of ‘tightness’ in.

Jets’ coach Rex Ryan talked about the injury after the game, and affirmed that its the same hamstring that was giving Revis trouble earlier in the week:

“I believe that’s right, but I’m not 100 percent. I think I was in tears when they told me he pulled a hamstring.”

Revis injured his hamstring on a play where there was some confusion about the defensive coverage.  He tried to speed up to catch Randy Moss and was unable to.  Ryan talked about the play:

“It’s not a good thing when you’re playing two different coverages. Anytime that happens, that’s trouble, and those guys made us pay.”

Revis gave this version of events:

“I didn’t get the call at all to tell you the truth. It was two different calls at the end of the play that I heard, and I didn’t get the call. That’s still no excuse, we’re taught to still cover your man if you don’t get the call.”

“I pulled up. Usually I rely on my speed … but it wouldn’t let me speed up to make a play.”

The Jets will find out the extent of the injury after Revis gets an MRI.  Obviously, he’s hoping he can go next week but Revis is aware of the reality of the situation:

“Hamstring injuries, it’s really about rest.”

Ryan says the team will persevere regardless:

“We’ve just got to play. We will find out tomorrow. Hamstring injuries are so tough to come back from. I just hope it’s not that bad.”

The Jets play their next two games on the road starting on Sunday at Miami followed by a game the next week at Buffalo.
