Darrelle Revis Expected To Play Against Vikings On Monday

The Minnesota Vikings added wide receiver Randy Moss to their lineup last week. Now it looks like he’ll get to play his old nemesis in his first game with his new team. Every indication is that the New York Jets’ Pro Bowl cornerback Darrelle Revis will be able to return to action following his hamstring injury suffered against Moss’s old team, the New England Patriots.
Revis has missed two games since then, but has been officially cleared to play by the Jets’ medical staff. It’s now head coach Rex Ryan’s call as to whether or not he’ll be in the lineup and what role he’ll play in the game. Revis practiced all week and is listed as ‘probable’ on the official NFL injury report. Revis announced via his Twitter account that he’s going to play, though Ryan has yet to make an official announcement confirming that:
“Whats up everyone, #ocnn news here, im playing against our former teammate #favre tomar, going to be a battle!”
The question now becomes whether or not Revis will be assigned to cover Moss on every play, but since he’s been cleared to return he’s expected to play the whole game. The Jets have maintained all along that either he’d be healthy enough to fully contribute or else he’d spend another week on the bench. Revis confirmed this as well:
“With this injury, it’s 100 percent [healthy] or it’s a no-go.”
In an interview earlier this week, Randy Moss downplayed the ‘rivalry’ with Revis but suggested that the Jets’ cornerback still doesn’t give him an appropriate level of respect:
“I think he gets caught up a little bit with how he talks. I never said anything about him, good or bad. I still give him his respect, but he hasn’t given me mine yet. Sooner or later, I’ll get it.”
The Jets’ secondary struggled in Revis’ absence, and with him back in the lineup Drew Coleman will play ‘nickle back’ while rookie Kyle Wilson will drop to the ‘dime back’ role.
