When it became apparent that quarterback Peyton Manning wouldn’t be able to play this season everyone knew that the Colts’ would be down from recent years. Just how far they’ve dropped, however, has been a surprise to everyone. After their 9th straight loss the Indianapolis players are looking for some answers and hope that a players’ only meeting will provide some.

Center Jeff Saturday called the meeting and although he wouldn’t divulge specifics of what was said the overall message was obvious–he’s sick of losing:

“I felt like it needed to be said and I said it. We just need to play better as a team, we need to get wins and ultimately that’s what it was about.”

Wide receiver Reggie Wayne said Saturday’s message resonated with the team:

“”He did what a veteran should do. He steps up and he puts his two cents in and he did a great job of that. I think everybody understood where he was coming from and I think we all took it personally and we should.”

Wayne detailed the theme of Saturday’s message:

“He didn’t have to yell, he didn’t have to scream or sound like a macho man or Randy Savage. Play football, nothing else. Love football, nothing else. Be a man, nothing else.”

Saturday said that the team’s dismal circumstances called for the meeting:

“We all kind of have an open policy as far as addressing the team. t’s just not something that has to happen very often, but then again, we haven’t been in this position very often.”

Wayne says that he’s even shared his thoughts with the team before:

“Guys talk all the time. You don’t need coaches to always be the ones to say the words. Sometimes you can tell the coach to take a seat. I think everybody will listen better coming from a player than coming from a coach. Sometimes you need that.”

The Colts have their best chance of winning in quite some time on Sunday as the Jacksonville Jaguars come to town. Jacksonville is a -3′ point road favorite on the NFL betting line with the total set at 38. In addition to going 0-9 SU the Colts are a 2-7 against the spread.
