Knowshon Moreno

The Denver Broncos will host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, and the team announced today that they’ll do so without the services of leading rusher Knowshon Moreno.  The official NFL injury report indicates that the injury is hamstring related, though Denver coach Josh McDaniels would only say that Moreno suffered “a little something” in practice that will keep him out of Sunday’s game.  Moreno has 2 touchdowns and 111 yards rushing on 39 carries in two games this season.

Broncos’ quarterback Kyle Orton was nonplussed by the latest injury news:

“You’ve just got to keep on moving on. There’s nothing you can do or say about it. We’ve been dealing with this stuff all year. And whoever’s in the huddle, we expect them to perform.”

Pretty much the entire Broncos depth chart at running back has dealt with an injury of some sort this season.  Correll Buckhalter hurt his neck in training camp and missed three weeks, though he’s back to 100% and looking to step up his game:

“Without going through a preseason and getting banged around and stuff for that month, my preseason’s kind of been the last two games we played. So just getting the chance to get the rust off, I’m kind of feeling like myself right now, especially late in the week.”

Moreno also suffered an injury in training camp, pulling his right hamstring on opening day and missing the entire preseason.

The third running back on the Denver roster, Laurence Maroney, has been dealing with a nagging thigh injury but practiced on Thursday and will play on Sunday against the Colts.

Denver could also be without their best pass coverage safety against Peyton Manning and company–Champ Bailey has been limited by a foot injury and is listed as a ‘game time decision’.  Bailey did practice on Friday and the latest indication is that he’ll be ready to go on Sunday.
