Brian Urlacher Cracks Back At Dhani Jones

One of the most significant ancilliary benefits of a quick resolution to the NFL’s labor situation is that the players will be busy and won’t be as able to engage in pointless and sophomoric feuds on Twitter and in other media outlets. The latest slapfight is between Chicago Bears’ linebacker Brian Urlacher and Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Dhani Jones. Jones left Urlacher off a list of the NFL’s ten best linebackers and of course that necessitated a response in kind.
Jones provided the list to the NFL Network and ranked himself #7. He justified the exclusion of Urlacher with the comment “When was the last time Urlacher got off a block?”. Urlacher had this to say on a sports talk radio show:
“I think we were drafted in the same class, and I haven’t heard anything about him since then. saw him on a TV show with a bow tie on, though. So I know him better for the way he dresses than what he does on the football field.
“Look, guys are going to talk. I’ve definitely had a lot worse things said about me publicly from guys, so I can live with it.”
Jones has since tried to soften the situation:
“It’s my top 10 list. It’s the guys I think [are the top 10], the guys I know, the guys I like the way they play.
“I’m not taking anything away from Brian Urlacher and the things he’s done. He’s got defensive accolades. He’s been to the Pro Bowl [seven times] far more than I’ve ever been because I’ve never been there. But at the same time, it’s a list that I’ve applied. But the most important thing is he’s definitely in my top 5 list of philanthropic linebackers. I think that is to be commended.”
So we not only have a pointless ‘feud’ here, but a really lame pointless feud. At least Osi Umenyiora and LeSean McCoy seem to genuinely not like each other. There’s been more intense feuds than Urlacher v. Jones in college sorority pledge classes. If you’re not going to go hard in a feud then just have some good old fashioned mutual respect for one another and keep your mouth shut.
