Brett Favre Wants To Keep His Consecutive Games Streak Intact

This isn’t exactly going to come as big news, but Brett Favre is a world class BS artist of epic proportions. We’ve spilled plenty of virtual ink talking about ‘The Gunslinger’ and his self serving ways. This is a guy who speaks of himself as a ‘victim’ because the NFL has investigated him for his horndog texts and (alleged) pictures of the ‘Lil’ Gunslinger’ that he sent to Jenn Sterger. So it comes as no surprise that he’s now putting himself before the good of his team and justifying it as a magnanimous gesture.
Favre has started an impressive 291 straight games (315 if you include the playoffs) and wants to keep that streak alive despite his gimpy ankle–which was revealed earlier this week to be caused by a pair of small fractures. No problem with that–the hilarious part of the situation is how hard he tries to justify his desire to play as ‘being for the team’:
“I’m willing to give it a try. If I’m going to play, I want to play the whole game and give us a chance to win.”
Favre wore an almost comically large walking boot to the podium for his weekly press conference, no doubt to further the dramatic effect. As the starting quarterback on a 2-4 team, his streak is probably the only thing that’s kept him from being benched already. Vikings’ coach Brad Childress criticized his performance after last Sunday’s loss to Green Bay. Apparently that’s all water under the bridge:
“Emotions run high for players and coaches. I can’t disagree with some of his comments. I’d be the first to tell you there’s plays I should have made, plays I should have read differently.”
Despite every shred of evidence to the contrary, Favre says that he won’t put his consecutive games streak ahead of what’s best for the team:
“I’m very proud of the streak, but it probably should have ended a long time ago. Whether it ends this week or it ends at the end of the year, it ends, and I will always be proud of it.”
He concluded with his usual ‘I’m just a kid out there, I love to play’ nonsense:
“There’s still a lot of football left. We’ve dug ourselves a hole here. We all know that, for whatever reason.”
“This could easily be an injury where I could say, ‘I’m going to slip under the radar. See you later. Easy out.’ And people may think that. I want to play, and I want to help this team win. I owe that to the guys. I owe that to myself.”
This could get real interesting, since based on the fact that he’s got two working legs–if nothing else–Tavaris Jackson very likely gives the Vikings the best chance of winning.
