Brett Favre Gets Stitches In His Chin
Added on Nov 01, 2010 by Scott in
Breaking news, pigskin fans. Brett Favre is hurting, again. No, it’s not his chronically sore elbow, or his always broken ankle, nor is it his perpetually wounded ego. This time around it’s his chin, which was blasted so hard in the fourth quarter on Sunday it required eight stitches to close the gash. Of course, after the game Brett wanted to assure his legions of haters fans that he’ll be ready to go next week.
When asked about the injury, Favre downplayed it in his usual homespun style:
My chin is numb right now,” Favre said after the Vikings fell to 2-5. “I don’t want to make a big deal out of it.”
Translation: I do want to make a big deal out of it. Please bring it up whenever possible for the next six days so I can garner sympathy from the media. Bless his heart.
Favre also wanted to reiterate that despite his propensity to throw horrific interceptions at the worst times, his never-ending list of real or imagined ailments and the Vikings losing record, he still believes he can get the job done:
“After 20 years, I still feel I can play at a high level,” Favre said.
And by high level he means seven touchdown passes, eleven interceptions and a quarterback rating of 69.8, which to put in perspective is 13 points lower than Jason Campbell and 20 points lower than Matt Cassel. No worries, though. He’ll be ready for Arizona next week.
So, no reason to obsess over Favre’s chin because he’s a-okay. In the immortal words of Vikings head coach Brad Childress:
“He’s a tough guy.”
That he is, Brad. That he is.
