It hasn’t been a good week for NFL quarterbacks with a multitude of injuries. A big name was added to the injury list on Tuesday as Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers revealed that he had a fractured right thumb. He doesn’t know when exactly it happened in the Steelers’ 24-17 win over Cincinnati on Sunday:

“It was hard to determine it on the sideline, but we did all the tests and it’s fractured in there.”

Roethisberger said that the injury was painful but it didn’t really impact his performance:

“It hurt, but (Steelers head trainer) John Norwig did a great job taping it up, making a quick splint out of tape and going with it. Squeezing the ball is the hardest part, but it’s a good thing that I had a glove on it because that helps gripping it a little bit.”

‘Big Ben’ does catch a bit of fortuitous scheduling as the Steelers have a bye on deck. He says he’ll take it easy until a few days before the team’s next game:

“I won’t have to throw for a week or so, (until) next Wednesday or whenever we practice next week. So, that’ll be a good time for it to rest. For me, it’ll just be getting used to throwing with a splint on again and a glove on, which I’ve done before.”

Pittsburgh wide receiver Mike Wallace said that it was business as usual for Roethlisberger:

“I didn’t even notice to tell you the truth. That’s just Ben. You know that something small isn’t going to slow him down like that.”

Roethlisberger played very well on a game clinching drive after the Bengals had tied the game at 17:

“That was kind of the mentality — ‘Let’s go no-huddle and try and get down there. Let’s answer. We take pride as an offense in wanting to be the best. It’s our time to do it, so let’s step up and score. We always want to answer. If I remember right, it was a pretty long drive, converting third downs. That’s huge.”

The Steelers are 7-3 SU on the year but only 5-5 against the NFL betting line.
