Arizona Billboards Want Manning

Well, that didn’t take long. A couple of weeks after Miami threw up highway billboards in an attempt to lure then Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, a company in Arizona unveiled one of their own today now that Manning is officially a free agent. R&S Mattress wasted little time in beginning the recruiting process by posting a billboard that reads, “PEYTON MANNING Please Sleep Here!” Clever.
R&S also plans to display the same plea on LED billboards during the coming weeks. Hey, if Manning can score a free king-sized in the deal, he’d be wise to consider the Cardinals. Unconfirmed rumors suggest Seattle is offering a year’s supply of fresh fish, and the Redskins are dangling a room at the White House.
In all seriousness, Arizona is in a bad position to acquire Manning considering they are less than a year removed from foolishly shelling out $64 million for Kevin Kolb. The presence of stud wideout Larry Fitzgerald is certainly enticing, but Manning might prefer to stay in the AFC due to his familiarity with the opponents.
Stay tuned for one of the most fevered free agent bidding wars the league has ever seen. Assuming of course Manning proves his neck and nerve issues are resolved. Whichever team signs him must be convinced the arm strength and throwing motion are back to normal before committing what will likely be a large sum of money.
The Dolphins clearly have a desire to upgrade the quarterback position and appear prepared to pay a king’s ransom to do so. Whether that means trading up to draft Robert Griffin III or taking a risk on a quarterback with health concerns entering the twilight of his career remains to be seen.
If the Jets make a pitch, they are obviously moving on from Mark Sanchez. But if they don’t land Manning, what will that do Sanchez’s psyche going forward? Being unwanted by fans is one thing. Being unwanted by management is an entirely different situation.
Brace yourself for a new kind of March madness
