NBA Betting: San Antonio Spurs at Golden State Warriors
Added on Jan 24, 2011 by Jack Thurman in

Monday offers numerous strong opportunities to bet on basketball, and in this post we’ll look at a Western Conference NBA matchup between the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors. The Spurs have been dominating play out West all season and despite a blowout loss to New Orleans in their last game still hold a 5 1/2 lead over the Lakers for the best record in the conference. The Warriors are well off the pace in both their division and the conference, but have shown signs of a return to respectability under head coach Keith Smart.

You have to expect a better effort from San Antonio than they put up in a 24 point loss to New Orleans on Saturday, but the scheduling sets up well for the home team. The Spurs have a much more important game on deck against the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City. They may not bring their ‘A-game’ against a lower table opponent that they’ve historically dominated. The Warriors have a long way to go, but they’re heading in the right direction under new coach Keith Smart. Golden State has become a decent home team with a 13-7 SU/12-8 ATS record. They’re also 25-18 ATS overall.
San Antonio has been a solid pointspread team all season, but they have a losing record in a couple of relevant pointspread categories. They’re not as adept playing uptempo teams, as reflected by a 3-5 ATS mark in games with a total of 210 or higher. They’re also not a dominating ATS team against opponents with losing records with a pointspread mark of 9-10 ATS. They certainly have the talent to beat any team badly, but in the long term you’ll make more money in sports betting by being a contrarian. For that reason we’ll take the points with a Golden State team that is 12-4 ATS in their last 16 games.
