Sunday NBA betting action serves up a Eastern Conference matchup between the Milwaukee Bucks and New York Knicks. The Knicks are currently tied for 6th place in the conference but are in pretty good shape for the postseason with a 6 game lead over 8th place Indiana. The Bucks are currently in 10th place and are trying to catch the Pacers for the final playoff spot–Milwaukee is 1/2 game behind 9th place Charlotte and 2 games behind the 8th place Pacers.

Knicks have been overvalued in terms of the line ever since the Carmelo Anthony trade. New York enters this game having lost 4 of their last 5 both straight up and against the spread and they’ve got a huge ‘lookahead’ spot on Monday when they host the Boston Celtics at Madison Square Garden. Bucks have their issues, but they’re a nasty defensive team–they currently rank #3 in points allowed trailing only Boston and Chicago. The Knicks can score points, but they’re a horrendous defensive team–when Carmelo Anthony was acquired he suggested he wanted to upgrade New York’s defensive intensity. Not really ‘mission accomplished’–they’ve gone from dead last to #28 giving up 105.8 PPG leading only Golden State and Minnesota.
Bucks have been terrible on the road this year but they’ve been capable at home which makes every game at the Bradley Center a ‘big game’. For whatever reason, the Bucks have been at their best against the Atlantic Division not only this year (11-2 ATS) but over the past 3 years (33-14 since 2008). They’re currently on a 23-3-2 ATS run against the Atlantic Division. Conversely, the Knicks are just 4-9 ATS this year against the Central and 21-28 ATS since 2008. New York has also underachieved against teams with losing records–they’ve lost 7 of their last 12 in this situation both SU and ATS. New York’s superstars are capable of getting ‘up’ for a marquee matchup–they may be worth a play on Monday depending on the price–but they haven’t been particularly good about dropping ‘the hammer’ against opponents they perceive as ‘uninspiring’. It doesn’t get much less ‘inspiring’ than the Milwaukee Bucks, but that works in our favor. Milwaukee wins this one outright and at the price any outright win cashes our ticket.
