One of the challenges of sports handicapping is knowing when to stay with a concept that has been working and when to start playing against it. For now, we’re going to take a position of ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ with this Detroit Pistons team. At first glance they don’t look like much with their 5-9 record but they’ve been a goldmine for pointspread players this season. Pistons are now 10-4 against the spread following a very competitive cover in a loss at Dallas last night. No matter how you slice it, they’re money in the bank–they’ve got a 8-4 ATS record as an underdog and a 5-2 ATS record on the road. Going back to last season they’ve covered 10 of 12 as a road underdog.
Grizzlies haven’t been a bad pointspread team, but they’re nothing special with a 6-7 ATS record. Their worst ATS role is as a favorite–since 2008 the Grizz are 24-30 ATS when laying points and enter this game on a 1-5 SU/ATS run. At some point the linesmakers will catch up with the strong effort Detroit has been demonstrating on a nightly basis and price the team correctly but for now they’re still ‘under the radar’ relative to the ‘square’ betting public so we’ll try to cash some more tickets before their pointspread success becomes common knowledge and gets factored into the line.
Bet Detroit Pistons +7 over Memphis Grizzlies
