NBA Betting Picks: Boston Celtics at Miami Heat
Added on May 10, 2011 by Jack Thurman in
NBA betting on Wednesday night as the Miami Heat try to close out the Boston Celtics at home. The Celtics gave the heat a ton of trouble during the regular season but Miami leads the best of 7 series 3 games to 1 and hasn’t had many problems with their arch rivals from Boston.

The Boston Celtics may have lost this series on Monday night. After winning game 3 and holding a 2nd half lead in Game 4 they let Miami steal a 98-90 overtime victory. So instead of heading back to Miami with the series deadlocked at 2-2 the Heat are now up 3-1 and can close out the Celtics here. With the Chicago Bulls having more trouble than they anticipated with the pesky Atlanta Hawks, Miami can get some much needed rest before the Eastern Conference finals.
What’s been the most disappointing thing about the Celtics is how non-competitive they’ve been in their losses. Miami has not only fought to a 3-1 series lead but the Heat has covered in all three of their victories. That sure suggests Boston might be a team that made their ‘last stand’ in Games 3 and 4 but fell short and will be hard pressed to muster up the intensity they’ll need to derail the Miami Heat juggernaut.
Game 5 line opened at -6 and has been bet up to Miami -7 and it’s really hard to make a compelling case for backing the Celtics even getting this generous amount of points. The Heat are becoming better–and more confident–as this series progresses while Boston looks to be heading the other way. The OT loss at the TD Banknorth Garden on Monday looked to be a backbreaker and now the Celtics have some long odds to overcome to get back in the series. Everyone knows that no NBA team has ever recovered from a 3-0 series deficit to win, but teams in a 3-1 hole aren’t much better off—only two teams have recovered from that deficit with the team leading 3-1 winning 133 of 135 series. Teams that lead a best of 7 series 3-1 playing Game 5 at home have won SU 72.9% of the time. Boston is capable of making this a game but we don’t see that happening and look for an easy Heat victory to eliminate the Celtics.
Bet Miami Heat -7 over Boston Celtics
