Sports betting enthusiasts will have quite a few strong opportunities to bet on NBA basketball tonight, and in this post we’ll look at a Western Conference matchup between the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder.  Spurs are getting back into action after the All Star Break and have the NBA’s best record. The lead their division and conference by 6 games.  The Thunder are atop the Northwest Division and #4 in the conference.

With a significant lead in both their division and the Western Conference we’re not sure the Spurs will be able to just ‘flip the switch’ and regain their intensity following the All Star Break.  Hard to gripe about anything they’ve done so far this season–San Antonio is 25-2 SU/15-11 ATS at home and a stellar 18-8 SU/17-8-1 ATS against opponents with winning records.  Still, we’re much more interested in taking a generous number of points with the talented young Oklahoma City Thunder who are coming off an easy victory over the LA Clippers last night.  This is a case where the back to back situation could benefit OKC–they’ll already be in more of a ‘rhythm’ while the Spurs will be playing their first game since last Thursday.

The Thunder have been a very good road team this year with a 16-11 SU record and have won 8 of 10 SU against the Western Conference.  They’ve won 9 of their L13 SU (although only 6-7 ATS) and are 9-6 ATS as an underdog.  Spurs haven’t had much trouble with the Thunder this year–they won by 13 in OKC in November and by 27 at home on January 1st.  Note, however, that Oklahoma City is a very good team in ‘revenge’ situations–Thunder are 18-5 SU/16-7 ATS when in a revenge spot.  They’ve also been very competitive in head to head play in recent years (the first two games of this season notwithstanding)–since 2008 Spurs are 7-3 SU/6-4 ATS but OKC holds a 3-2 ATS edge on San Antonio’s home court despite losing 3 of those 5 games SU.  OKC has been at their best in road games against good teams–they’re currently on a 24-10 ATS run against opponents with a home winning percentage of .600 or higher.  We’ll look for the Thunder to steal the outright win and we’re getting a generous margin of error.
