NBA Betting Free Picks: San Antonio @ New Jersey
Added on Mar 29, 2010 by Jack Thurman in
Sportsbooks taking a break from college basketball betting on Monday, and we’ll take a look at some NBA betting opportunities. In particular, we’ll look at an inter-conference matchup between the New Jersey Nets and San Antonio Spurs. Nets need one win to guarantee that they won’t tie for the worst record in NBA history. Spurs are pretty secure for the postseason tied with Oklahoma City in the Western Conference.

At first glance this is a mismatch, but there’s an interesting scheduling dynamic at play that could influence the outcome–and certainly from a pointspread standpoint. The Spurs are in the second of back to back games, having won at Boston on Sunday. They’ll play at home against Western Conference foe Houston on Wednesday, so this could be a good opportunity for San Antonio coach Greg Popovich to limit the minutes of Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili. This has been his goal during the stretch run of the season, with the hope that it’ll leave them in better shape for the playoffs. With a home conference game against the Rockets on deck followed by a big game against Orlando, this is a great opportunity for Duncan and Ginobili to take it easy. Tony Parker remains out, which has forced Duncan and Ginobili to pick up the slack scoring and in the backcourt respectively.
The Spurs could probably beat the Nets without their three stars, but it’ll be a much closer game and certainly much more difficult for San Antonio to win by a sizable margin in sports betting. There’s simply no reason for San Antonio to go for the kill here, with more important games immediately ahead and the playoffs looming. The Spurs should get the victory, but the Nets will keep it close.
