NBA Betting: Dallas Mavericks at Minnesota Timberwolves
Added on Mar 07, 2011 by Jack Thurman in
One of the best teams in the NBA’s Western Conference travels to Minnesota to play the worst team–the Dallas Mavericks have been playing great basketball lately and will face a struggling T-Wolves team tonight as they try to pick up ground on the San Antonio Spurs. Dallas is coming off a tough home loss to a scrappy Memphis team but has won 8 of their last 10 games. The T-Wolves have lost 8 of their last 10 games.

Mavs could be without center Tyson Chandler here (listed as ‘questionable’) but Minnesota is dealing with a flu bug in the clubhouse and that’s never a good thing for a team that has been struggling when they’re healthy. Minnesota is 4-16 SU in their last 20 games going 6-14 ATS so they’re not a team that frequently covers in losing efforts. They’ll have their hands full tonight against a Mavs team coming off a rare loss. Dallas has played as well on the road this season as they have at home and have been much better against the spread–Mavs are 20-10 ATS on the road. They’ve also been good in back to back spots, going 9-4 SU/ATS.
The Mavs have underachieved from a pointspread perspective in games against opponents with losing records, going 11-17 ATS despite a 22-7 SU mark. That would be of interest against some teams, but despite the emergence of Kevin Love as a legitimate superstar at power forward the T-Wolves are just a team you can’t back financially. As a home underdog in this price range (+6′ to +9) they’re 0-6 SU/1-5 ATS this season. They’re 10-22 SU/12-20 ATS at home, which indicates that it’s very rare that a T-Wolves team puts up a competitive effort unless they’re in the hunt for a SU victory. They’re also 2-29 SU/11-20 ATS against teams with winning records this season including a 1-8 SU/2-7 ATS run in the second half of the season. They’re not a team that gets ‘up’ for games against better opponents. Mavs have dominated in head to head play on the TWolves home court–they’re 4-0 SU/ATS since 2008 and are 19-7 ATS in Minnesota since 1997. Just no reason to go against the far superior Mavs with a team that you can’t count on not to throw in the towel before the end of the game.
Bet Dallas Mavericks -6′ over Minnesota Timberwolves
