NBA Basketball Betting Picks: New Jersey @ Charlotte
Added on Feb 16, 2010 by Jack Thurman in
Sportsbooks will be featuring NBA betting action again on Tuesday night as pro hoops gets back to work following the All Star break. We’ll look to something simple as we get back in business as the hapless New Jersey Nets head to Charlotte to take on the Bobcats–a team that may be owned by former Chicago Bulls great Michael Jordan in the near future.

Business as usual in New Jersey, where the Nets are still the worst team in the NBA. They’ve won 4 games all year, lost 8 straight and 9 of 10 and have 1 road victory all season. Surprisingly, they have been a solid moneymaker lately for hoops sports betting with 6 pointspread covers and a push in their L9 games. This probably isn’t a case of New Jersey getting better as much as pointspreads catching up with how bad they are and opposing teams thinking they can ‘phone in’ a performance against the woeful Nets. Even with a better ATS record, 1 win in the L17 games isn’t the sign of an improving team.
Charlotte will need to pick up their game as the season enters its stretch run to secure a playoff spot. Currently, they’re in sixth place but lead 8th place Chicago by only one game and 9th place Milwaukee by two games. Not much of a margin for error there. They lost 3 of 5 heading into the break, but two were tough road games at Portland and the LA Lakers. Heading into the All Star break, Charlotte also displayed a disturbing tendency to play down to their level of opposition. They won their final two games before the break–at home against Washington and at Minnesota–by a total of 3 points. They’ve also managed to be one of four teams to actually lose to New Jersey this year–in fact, the Bobcats were the ‘victims’ that allowed the Nets to get their first win of the season.
In this spot, however, we look for a focused effort from Charlotte who know their situation vis a vis the playoffs and know that if they bring their ‘A Game’ they’ll shred New Jersey. Nets are a horrible 10-17 ATS on the road, while Charlotte is 14-8 ATS against teams with losing records. We’ll look for a Bobcats blowout here.
