The San Antonio Spurs quest to win another championship looks like it will begin without second leading scorer Manu Ginobili. The All-Star guard will be listed as doubtful for Game 1 versus Memphis after sustaining a sprain to his right elbow on Wednesday night. The Spurs, who enter the playoffs as the top seed in the Western Conference, tip off on Sunday afternoon.

Ginobili played a career high 80 games and his 17.4 points was the second best total in nine seasons. Alongside point guard Tony Parker, Ginobili helped lead a new look faster paced offense that finished sixth in points scored.

On the surface, his absence might not seem like a big deal. However, San Antonio won their first two games versus Memphis when Ginobili combined to score 50 points, but lost the next two when he netted only 11 total points on 4-11 field goals.

The good news is the injury doesn’t appear to be a longterm one and Ginobili tweeted last night the pain was almost gone. The bad news is the Spurs are thin at shooting guard. Expect Gary Neal to see increased minutes. Neal ended the season scoring double-digits in his last four games.
