Durant vs. Notwitzki Is Must-See TV
Added on May 20, 2011 by Scott in
With the Western Conference Finals knotted up at 1-1, it’s safe to assume we may be looking at a classic seven-game series in the making. It’s the young guns of Oklahoma City against the wise lions of Dallas. It’s two former Coaches of the Year further cementing their elite status. It’s the team that bolted Seattle facing off with the one owned by oft despised Mark Cuban. But more than anything else, it’s Kevin Durant versus Dirk Nowitzki.
Durant and Nowitzki represent two of the game’s most prolific scorers. Both are, at times, unguardable. Both lead their teams in scoring, and each has already posted a 40-point game in the series. And both are simply put, really damn good.
Whether launching rainbows from beyond the arc or driving to the hoop with amazing alacrity, KD and Dirk are putting on a must-see show every night they take the floor. Their 88 combined points in Game 1 was the kind of offensive assault not seen since the days of Jordan-Thomas and Bird-Magic. Their combined 42-43 made free-throw attempts is one for the record books.
Their encore performances in Game 2 might not have produced the fireworks of Game 1, but each once again topped their squads in scoring and did so without converting a single three-pointer. Versatility and the ability to adjust to defenses designed to stop them is what makes them special.
Few, if any, NBA forwards possess their unique skill-sets. They can pinpoint pass, crash the boards, run the floor and reject a shot, in addition to their nightly habit of lighting up scoreboards. They play the game with boundless energy and crafty intelligence.
Pressure is constantly stacked high atop their broad shoulders. Confidence oozes from their pores. A nagging desire to prove the naysayers wrong runs rampant through their veins. The never-ending dream of winning a championship consumes their hearts.
If you’re not watching the intense heavyweight bout that is Durant vs. Nowitzki, wake the hell up and get your mind right. The first two rounds have been split. Round three is Saturday night at 9pm. If the world hasn’t ended, be there.
