Deron Williams To Miss At Least Two Games

Nets point guard Deron Williams’ injured wrist will cause him to miss at least two more games. He already sat out Sunday’s defeat to the Wizards and will ride the pine for tonight’s game versus Indiana and Wednesday’s matchup at Cleveland. He plans to be back in the lineup when New Jersey travels to Orlando on Friday.
Williams first injured the wrist while playing for the Jazz on January 26th. Surgery has been ruled out as a solution, although doctors haveĀ told him 3 to 6 weeks of rest will be needed to fully heal the strained flexor tendon.
“I’m just getting a little rest and then re-evaluate it,” Williams said. “Maybe a couple of more games. It’s not really set in stone. I’ll just see how it feels.”
Despite some struggles from the field, Williams is playing through the pain and averaging 16.2 points and 13.1 assists since being traded to the Nets. With 14 games left on the schedule, New Jersey is clinging to slim playoff hopes. They are currently 11th in the Eastern Conference, seven full games behind 8th place Indiana.
Sitting out the remainder of the season was an option, but Williams elected to take a break before entering the stretch drive. With him, the Nets chances are remote of earning a postseason berth. Without him, they can pretty much forget it.
