Added on Jan 25, 2010 by Jack Thurman in
Sportsbooks will be featuring Big East basketball action on Monday night with the marquee matchup between Georgetown and Syracuse on tap. Hoyas have struggled in the Carrier Dome, losing five straight games SU on the Syracuse home court. Both teams have been playing well this year–Georgetown has a 15-3 SU record, while Syracuse is 19-1 SU. We’ll take a college basketball betting position on this game:

Bookmakers don’t like teams that win or lose all of their games against the pointspread, and will adjust prices accordingly to change that trend. For that reason alone, it’ll be worth playing against Syracuse from here on out as they’ve simply dominated against the pointspread to date. Orange are 12-4 ATS overall and 9-4 ATS as a favorite. Syracuse has admittedly been a tough foe for Georgetown at the Carrier Dome, winning 8 of the L9 meetings with a 6-3 ATS mark.
Hoyas’ biggest issue this season has been depth, but the schedule sets up well for Georgetown in this game. Syracuse had a tough game against Marquette on Saturday, while the Hoyas had an easy victory over Marquette that allowed the team to empty the bench and get some of the little used reserves some action. More importantly, it allowed them to limit the minutes of their starters as they’ll need to log more action against Syracuse.
Orange have used their size and strength advantage up front to get the better of foes all year, but Georgetown can definitely hold their own in that department. The Syracuse 2-3 zone might not be very effective at containing Hoya’s 6’11″ center Greg Monroe. Monroe has been averaging 21+ points and 13 boards in his last three games, and could give Syracuse’s frontcourt a bit of their own medicine here. In the bitterly competitive Big East its never a bad idea to take a talented dog getting points and that’s what we’re doing here.
Bet Georgetown +6 over Syracuse
