College Basketball Betting Free Picks: Villanova @ Pittsburgh

Las Vegas sportsbooks will hopefully offer a brunch special to go along with this college basketball opportunity–the Big East confrontation between Villanova and Pittsburgh starts at an uncivilized 9 AM Pacific Time. Both teams are having very good seasons with both ranked in the top 25. Villanova is 11-2 SU in Big East conference play while Pitt is 9-4.

Two concepts at work here that we’ve talked about repeatedly. First, its difficult to win on the road in competitive college basketball betting conferences. Second, at some point teams with dominant pointspread records become ‘go againsts’ if for no other reason than sports betting linesmaker adjustment in their prices. Villanova opened their season by shooting out to a 15-4 ATS mark, but they’ve failed to cover in four of their last five. Most likely, its a combination of these two factors causing the ATS swoon for ‘nova and it won’t get any easier as they head into a tough venue for visiting teams. Pittsburgh has been a solid ATS team in their own right this year going 13-8 against the number. Panthers are 14-1 SU at home, and a very impressive 7-2 ATS as an underdog. They’re also 9-3 ATS in Big East play.
Villanova has had a very tough time playing in ‘The Steel City’ in recent years. Panthers have won and covered 5 straight on their home floor and with the other technical factors listed above we look for that streak to continue with an outright Pittsburgh win.
